Before we start, I’m going to admit something to you. I am not a writer. I am not a blogger. I am not technically savvy. In fact, it may or may not have taken me no less than 5 hours to figure out HOW to even write a post on this newfangled thing called a web site. I’m certain I have a lot to learn about blogging, and taking the right pictures and telling the right story without rambling on or randomly going in a different direction.
BUT, here we go.
Let’s start with the WHY am I blogging? Well, for the past slightly more than three years, I’ve stayed home to raise these two boys of mine and I’ve loved it. And now they’re BIG and my youngest is going to kindergarten and I wanted to do something with my time and my thoughts, and I thought TRAVEL!! But, alas, my other half has to maintain a ‘real’ job and now the boys are in ‘real’ school, and sadly, we cannot just take off and conquer the world whenever we feel like it!
So very recently, a friend of mine was telling me about her job as a travel planner. I may know what you’re thinking when you hear “travel planner”. Do those still exist? Hasn’t Expedia and Travelocity and Kayak and the whole “Google it” thing made travel agents obsolete and useless? Well if you thought that, you’d be wrong, just like I was. I won’t get into details but basically she gets to plan all these fun, amazing vacations for other people, and it doesn’t cost them a dime more than if they were to do all of the planning and research and spend the countless hours of indecision on their own.
And I just had this moment as she was telling about what she did for a living when I thought, I’M IN! I’m SO in. I’m very good at research and organizing and planning trips and considering budgets, and it’s completely something I can do outside of an office, on my own time and while the little dudes are at school during the day! Heck! It might even put some money in the bank so that THIS FAMILY can go on fun, amazing vacations while the dudes are on school breaks!
So, now I find myself about to get into the training portion of this Travel Academy adventure I’ve decided to embark on, and I’m nervous and excited and want to learn everything there is to know about everywhere. But, on top of bringing you along on all these wondrous pursuits of travel planning, I think I have a lot of other great stuff to share as well. Tidbits of wisdom about traveling with kids and grandparents and trips close to home and trips very far and how to do it all without losing your mind. Destinations that are easier to get to than you think, and how to simply manage the crazy far ones and maybe even have the best vacation of your life.
So, as I step into this new season of life, I’ll be writing about trips and travel and travel planning and a lot of life in between. I’m thrilled to have you join me, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll be inspired to call me and just pack a bag.
